HIAS | KEY ACTION AREAS SERIES

Summary

HIAS provides critical support to refugees and asylum seekers around the world in a myriad of ways. To help communicate the breadth and depth of their work, we partnered with HIAS to create a series of videos highlighting each of their key action areas: providing legal support, ending gender-based violence, promoting economic inclusion, and supporting community mental health. We spoke with country directors and subject-matter experts from HIAS offices throughout the world to create these videos for an audience of potential donors and those unfamiliar with HIAS. Utilizing HIAS’s vast visual archive, including our own past projects with them, along with self-filmed footage remote directed by our team, each video captures the importance and impact of these focus areas.

GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (ABOVE)

SUMMARY: Having arrived in a new and unfamiliar environment, refugees face barriers to accessing basic services, like shelter and food, putting them at further risk for violence and exploitation. HIAS is at the forefront of working towards ending gender-based violence by centering the voices of survivors in their GBV program. HIAS works with communities to reduce the risk of GBV and increase their support and protection for survivors, while empowering communities to lead efforts to transform the beliefs that perpetuate GBV.

MENTAL HEALTH (BELOW)

SUMMARY: Taking care of refugees goes well beyond the immediate needs for clothing, food, and shelter. It’s about caring for the whole person — physically, emotionally, and mentally. HIAS’s community-based mental health programs promote the well-being of individuals, families, and communities affected by crisis and conflict.
